Background

Matricaria chamomilla is commonly known as German chamomile, blue chamomile, or pure chamomile. This annual shrub from the Asteraceae family is found in Europe, North Africa, and some parts of Asia. The word chamomile means apple-like, which can be attributed to its tempting fragrance. The plant can grow up to 10-80 centimeters in height and bears white or light blue flowers with a golden flower-head. It has leaflets on both sides of the stem(bipinnate). The leaves and the essential oil derived from this plant are extensively used around the globe for their therapeutic and cosmetic uses.In ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, chamomile was used in herbal medications.

General Information

Ecodrop’s Organic German Chamomile essential oil is prepared from chamomile plantations in the fertile lands of Egypt, certified organic by the UK Soil Association. The plant produces the best yield in alkaline clay-like soil under the PH range of 7-9, which is easily available in Egypt. Chamomile flowers bloom between the months of November and February, and harvesting is done in March-April when the flowers are fully mature because the juvenile and older flowers contain a lower concentration and quality of the oil. These flowers are then left to ferment for a while and then transported to the distillery for extraction of the essential oil by steam distillation.
